Myde Glover always knew he wanted to be an actor and filmmaker. Growing up, he spent hours watching Yoruba films, each with its own production company name. Inspired by these films, young Mide dreamed of having his own production company someday. He even created a name for it: Magic Media Studios.
Years later, that childhood dream became a reality. After attending numerous auditions with little success, Myde decided to take matters into his own hands. He wanted to create opportunities not only for himself but also for those around him. So, he teamed up with his friends Bolu Abiodun and Ola Jegede. Together, they made their first film, and Magic Media Studios was officially born.
Myde, Bolu, and Ola, the co-founders of Magic Media Studios, had a simple but powerful vision: to tell African stories to the world. They believed in the importance of sharing stories that resonate with their own experiences and culture. “Our stories are our stories,” Myde said. “We can’t be other people but us, and it’s very important to tell stories that resonate with us.”
At Magic Media Studios, the team focuses on creating beautiful films that reflect their society. They aim to produce stories where audiences can see themselves or someone they know. Myde, as the creative director, often brings story ideas to the team. They discuss and decide together whether to move forward with a project. This collaborative process ensures that every film they make is meaningful and authentic.
Starting a production company wasn’t easy. The biggest challenge they faced was funding. Making films requires money, and convincing investors to believe in their projects was tough. However, they were determined to invest in their future, even if it meant raising funds themselves. They believed in their dreams and worked hard to make them come true.
One of their most rewarding moments came in November 2023. Magic Media Studios, in collaboration with Nne Studios, held an exclusive screening of three short films: “COLLIDE,” “THY WILL BE DONE,” and “LITTLE MISS.” The event was a huge success, with a sold-out cinema and a loving audience. “LITTLE MISS” was particularly well-received, captivating viewers with its tale of forbidden love. The film follows Maryann and Kunle, who try to be together despite all odds. An unexpected encounter forces them to confront the harsh realities of their lives, making for a poignant and powerful story that resonates deeply with audiences.
The founders of Magic Media Studios are a tight-knit team. They respect each other’s roles and collaborate closely on projects. While they prefer to work with familiar faces, they are always open to new talent. They value hard work and dedication and believe in nurturing young talent.
As they look to the future, Magic Media Studios is excited about several upcoming projects. They recently produced a film titled “WE ARE GOOD PEOPLE” and have plans for a period piece called “SAVING GRACE.” They are also working on several short films and an original series exclusive to their YouTube channel.
